Waste Heat Recovery
I Overview
Waste heat recovery refers to a variety of technologies, all of which use the flue gases from industrial processes for various purposes.
II Applications
Waste heat recovery devices can generally be divided into low and high temperature applications. Low temperature (roughly defined as operating below 1000ºF) applications heat water and/or building space. High temperature applications mainly produce steam for power production and high-pressure industrial processes, although some will contain the gases within recuperated burner systems.
III Equipment Options
Low temperature applications are implemented by boiler economizers, air-to-air heat exchangers, enthalpy wheels, and reciprocating engines in cogeneration systems.
High temperature applications are implemented by gas turbines, kilns, waste incinerators, furnaces, and catalytic oxidizers.
